| DEFINITIONS |
 |
|
Digital Rights Management (DRM) - A system used to encrypt digital media and
deliver license keys to decrypt that media to authorized End Users.
PlayStream Customer - The content or streaming media owner that holds an
account with PlayStream.
End User - The consumer (listener or viewer) of the PlayStream Customer’s
media.
Acquisition URL - The address of the Web server where an End User will be sent
if they don't have a license to play content.
|
| |
What Is Encryption?
Encryption is a way of protecting your media with a unique Content ID for the
purpose of data security. In order to access the encrypted media, End Users
must acquire a license key and that allows for decryption and playback. Without
this license key, encrypted media will not play. |
| |
| PLEASE NOTE: If you
have already upgraded your Windows Media Player to version 10, your Windows
Media Encoder will no longer be able to stream live with DRM. You will receive
an error reading: "Unknown error 8004C02D". We suggest running
your encoder on a computer that still has Windows Media Player version 9. If
you have already upgraded to version 10, you will need to remove your Windows
Media Encoder and do a System Restore back dated to September 1st, 2004.
Microsoft is working on this issue, but at the moment this is the only
solution. This issue does not affect people attempting to view protected
content on the Windows Media 10 player, only those encoding content. Your
end-users will be able to receive your live broadcast using Windows Media
Player 9 or 10. |

| ENCRYPTION OPTIONS |
 |
Option A: Encrypting On-Demand Media from Your PlayStream
Account
Option B: Encrypting On-Demand Media using the Windows Media
Encoder 9 Series and an Encoder Profile
Option C: Encrypting Live Streaming
|
| |
| On-Demand Media - There are two options for encrypting On
Demand media. |
 |
-
Media can be encrypted from your PlayStream Account Manager (recommended).
-
Media can be encrypted locally at your computer using the Windows Media Encoder
9 Series (link to Windows Media Encoder download) and an Encoder Profile that
you generate from the Digital Rights Management center of your PlayStream
Account.
|
| Please Note: Once you have encrypted an On-Demand media file, it is
encrypted forever. If you want to use the media for unencrypted purposes at a
later time, make sure you have backup copies of your original source files. |
 |
 |

-
Select the "Uniquely" radio button to encrypt each piece of media with a unique
Content ID and Key ID which requires a license key for each piece of
content. Or, you can choose single key profile which encrypts all the
content using the same key to allow a single license key to work for all
content encrypted with that profile.
-
Leave the license URL as the default value: https://www.playstream.com/license/
(Please note that if you change this and have not taken the steps to set up a
license acquisition URL, your end-End Users will not be able to acquire a
license to play your encrypted media)
-
BEFORE YOU PROCEED, NOTE THAT ONCE YOUR MEDIA IS ENCRYPTED, IT IS ENCRYPTED
FOREVER! WE STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT YOU HAVE BACK UP COPIES OF YOUR CONTENT PRIOR
TO ENCRYPTION.

When you are ready, click "Encrypt."
-
